Of Job Interview

Well, there is simply no excuse for not reading up as much as you can on your interviewers. Of being asked “What do you know and how much do you know about our company?” and returning a reply “Not a lot” just indicates that your personal interest in this firm is insufficient. So, please get on with the firm’s products, its services, its structure and then the role for which you are being considered. Equally important is swotting up on the industry you wish to enter.

2. Forget Yourself

This is a very common error I have seen in the procedure.  Many people here make the mistake of not reflecting adequately on their motives and qualities. So just as you investigate your future employer, do look at your personal reasons for your application. For example, what interests you about the firm, what your strengths are and your short-term as well as long-term career goals. You need to have examples to hand for showing and the lines such like I need money or working experience just won’t do you any favours at all. It’s my prerogative to direct the flow, so don’t interrupt me but you can try to make your point for what reason you are the one to hire.

3. Dress Inappropriately

First impressions do count. Of course the appearance is not more important than what you can offer as a person but attend the job interview in shorts is an act to kiss employment goodbye. Every firm does have its own culture in clothing and if you have any doubt about it then I would suggest you to pay a visit to the office.

4. Getting There Late

Ha! It’s so hard to imagine a very worse way to start but there are some people do make this kind of mistake. If you can’t be relied upon to be on time for the very first meeting, then tell me for what hope is there for the long term. Even if you were kidnapped by aliens or by your girl/boyfriend last night or your dog ate your tie or shirt, still you must have to get to the office on time for the interview. Plan your journey well, leave home early or simply stay in the hotel nearby for a night. Also it will be a good opportunity for you to relax yourself for the preparation or tidying up your appearance by arriving there early.

5. Don’t Practise Beforehand

One of your homework is having a look at the company public information to look at their key words or aliensterminology.  By doing this you can speak the firm’s language in the interview. You need to present yourself in a very way that we’ll understand. It’s a good idea too by asking family friends who work in business to give you a muck interview in order to see how you come across. This will eliminate your risk of waffling and provide you an opportunity to see whether you express yourself with good diction and manner.

6. Bad Body Language and the Fishy Handshake

Even you have being interviewed by a panel face like me, just don’t avoid the eye-contact, okay? Also, do practise the art of handshake with someone you know. The style of too limp about this is fcuky but a bone-crusher is even offensive. Your body language should be positive. It could be too much for us for seeing you fidget with your clothes or scratch your body parts. Do thank the interviewer before you leave.

7. Attitude Problem

Okay la! I know you’re nervous. But, well, your nerves needn’t inhibit enthusiasm which is the quality that could set you apart from the rest. One of the errors is appearing overly desperate for the job or too laid-back or even too modest. Please behave yourself in somewhere in the middle ground.

8. Forgetting to Bring Along Your Files

What else I can tell you. You know what I mean, don’t you?

9. Question Catastrophe

Mind you! You can never be so sure that what you will be asked but certain stock and typical questions are more likely to arise than others and, well, you should be ready for them. No excuse, please. Just go through practise question over your homework and bear in mind classics like “Why do you want this job?” or “What are your weakness?” I might even ask you a kind of question like “What would you do if you were in the front desk when…?” or “Tell me how you feel of this painting?” Keep a clear idea in your mind of what your role were in the question. Do listen carefully to the questions. If you don’t know the answer to the question then I would advise you that it’s better to be honest with the interviewer as well as to say so and then offer an educated guess, rather than launching into an elaborate web of lies. To me, I would rather want a person who is keen to learn the new teaching than a pretending one.

10. Don’t Ask Questions

An interview is a two-way process. Don’t be shame away from asking any question you have in mind. It’s an understandable thing that turning the tables around is one of the most feared interview situations but failure to pose any relevant questions could just make you look so unenthusiastic and unimaginative in both. Make sure you’ve prepared your questions beforehand and try to list the ones you’d really like answered.

Finally, of course, there’s not much in interview that hasn’t been done before, but when you do think of something different from the scratch, it’s great too.

After all, as an interviewer, we’re interested in the curious. @>---;---
