Gulf employees salary woes

Some don't even know if their paid fairly or not.

Two thirds of empoyees in the Arab world complain they are underpaid, reports Maktoob.com.

And those in the Gulf are the most likely to be dissatisifed, according to a new survey from Bayt.com. Sixty-six percent of workers said they were not paid fairly, compared to just 16 percent who said they were content with their salaries, according to the survey by the Middle East job site.

The findings chime with Kipp’s poll, the results of which suggest most Kipp readers would value a salary bump more than reduced working hours or more holiday.

Unbelievably, in the Bayt survey a full 17 percent said they were unsure whether they were paid fairly. In the UAE around three-quarters of respondents said they were unhappy with their salaries, with only 12 percent saying they were well paid. Fifteen percent said they were unsure if they were paid fairly.

In Kuwait the percentage of respondents unhappy with their pay was even higher at around 80 percent, whereas 71 percent said they were underpaid in Saudi Arabia and 75 percent in Qatar.

The survey also found that for nine out of 10 workers in the Gulf region the pay package was the decisive factor in whether they stayed with an employer.
