1、高考的英语全称是：National College Entrance Examination，简称NEMT，中文全称是：普通高等学校招生全国统一考试。

首先，英美国人对高考的理解貌似跟我们不太一样，有些人认为它可以笼统地算作一场考试，因此用的是单数exam；而有些人认为它是一系列的考试，所以要用复数exams，各有各的道理。
其次，这个“高”（高等学校）是翻译成college还是university？我们常常听到的解释是“college是学院，而university是综合性大学”。其实都可以，尤其是在美国英语中，MacMillan English Dictionary - American是这样解释college的：in the U.S., a place that gives students degrees. A school of this typecan also be called a universityif it is large enough to give degrees in more than one subject。
因此，“高考”可译为：

直译是“全国大学入门考试”。
注意事项：
1.每个单词一般都不大写，除非在句首；

相当于美国SAT考试，即SAT Reasoning Test，以前叫Scholastic Assessment Test与Scholastic Aptitude Test.
该考试几乎是进入所有高等学校(higher education institution)本科阶段(undergraduate level)学习的必要条件(prerequisite)，决定了一个人一生的职业轨迹(professional trajectory)。
学生一般在中学教育(secondary education)【包括高中与初中】最后一年参加(sit)高考，但从2001年开始已经没有年龄限制(age restriction)。考试成绩不好(a poor performance on the test)几乎就意味着没有机会上大学。
所以有些人在考试失利后会选择重读(repeat the last year of high school life)第二年重考(make another attempt/retake the test)。
