根据我们之前所讲的应用文审题技巧可以判断今年考查的作文类型是书信，原因就在于关键词email和reply，对于邮件的回复自然也是邮件。其次，题目中出现了thank一词，那么就可以判断题目的要求是写感谢信。接下来再具体看一下题目。首先，第一句话Suppose you won a translation contest and your friend, Jack, wrote an email to congratulate you and ask for advice on translation.就告诉了我们整篇文章的写作背景，即自己赢得了翻译比赛，朋友Jack给自己写了封祝贺的邮件并询问做好翻译的相关建议。其次，对于感谢信的内容题目也给出了详细的规定：1) thank him(感谢他的祝贺);2) give your advice(给出建议)。以上就是我们上课所讲的小作文题目的规定情景部分。之后就是常规性规定内容了，跟往年一样，署名还是Li Ming。
对于感谢信，首先需要注意其格式，毕竟格式恰当是应用文的重要评分标准之一。以下就是书信的格式：
格式之后，接下来就是正文内容。对于感谢信的内容，之前讲过主要包括三部分：
第一段 表达感谢，简述事由
第二段 具体帮助，自身感受
第三段 再表感谢，表示期待
除此之外，本题还要求要给出与提高翻译能力有关的建议，这一内容需要在感谢信的基础上稍加调整既可。根据生活逻辑而言，可将建议的内容放在第二段“具体帮助，自身感受”之后。
因此，具体写作内容可以如下：
Dear Jack,
I am writing this letter to express my sincerest gratitude to you for your congratulation.
Last Sunday, you wrote an email to congratulate me on my win at the translation contest. And this is of great value for me to continue my translation cause. In addition, as to your request of suggestions on translation, it is advisable for you to read more books, because it can help to improve your ability of both comprehension and expression.
Once again, thank you for your congratulation. I hope that I will have the opportunity to discuss translation with you.

第一段为其祝贺信而表达自己的感激之情。第二段先说明对方祝贺自己这件事，并表达自己对于这封祝贺信的感受;然后根据题目要求，就翻译方面提出建议，并解释该建议的原因为何。第三段即再表感谢，并表示期待。
