　　而如今，圣诞节已经从一个宗教节日变成一个世界性的大众节日。人们在节日期间互相祝福，期盼欢乐的`新年来临。圣诞节使得这个寒冷的冬日增添了一股暖意，也拉开了年底holiday season 的序幕。

　　但是你知道关于圣诞节的英语表述都有些什么吗?

　　让我们先来看一下跟圣诞有关的英语单词与短语:

　　Christmas Eve：平安夜，也就是圣诞节的前一天。每年的12月24日。这跟我们的大年夜有点相似(New Year's Eve)。

　　Christmas Day：圣诞节当天，每年的12月25日。相当于中国的大年初一。Everybody goes for various parties to celebrate the festival on Christmas day.(在圣诞节那天，大家都去参加各种各样的派对来庆祝节日。)

　　Boxing Day：圣诞节后的第一个工作日，即每年的12月26日，意即“重拳出击的那一天”。

　　尤其值得注意的是，在西方，还有一个Christmas season。它是指12月24日至翌年1月6日，我们称之为“圣诞节节期”。也就是经常说的holiday season，指的是一整段日子。

　　This tradition comes from the story of the three wise men who got gifts for baby Jesus on Christmas. Every Christmas, gifts are exchanged among loved ones, especially children. The story of Santa Claus also comes from this tradition.

　　It refers to the age-old custom of enchanting a number of traditional Christmas songs during the Christmas season. It adds to the joy and fun to the atmosphere. Different Christmas hymns or carols like The First Noel, Jingle Bells, Joy to the world, etc are sung every Christmas as a part of the Christmas celebration.

The first crib ever was made outside a church of St. Francis of Assisi for children to show them how the Nativity scene was like. Since then, this tradition became very popular.
