Abstract
The thesis provides some descriptions of lexical cohesion in English. According to the analysis of Halliday and Hasan, lexical cohesion is one of the cohesion devices in English. Continuity may be established in a text by the choice of words. The thesis will cover three forms of lexical cohesion: repetition, synonym and collocation. Although the cohesion need not depend on identity of reference, it is useful to distinguish whether the reference is identical or not. The aim of the thesis is to give an account of aspects of lexical cohesion, which is based on linguistic theory and also applicable in practice. While in different writings, the frequency of using the lexical item is different. The discussion in the thesis will contribute to the development of lexical cohesion theory. Based on evidence from texts of different writings, it will be useful in application to further text study.

摘要
这篇论文描述了英语中的词汇衔接。根据韩礼德和哈桑的分析，词汇衔接是语篇衔接的手段之1。它就是指通过选择单词来保持语篇的连续性。本文将覆盖词汇衔接手段的`3种形式：重复，同义性，搭配。尽管衔接不需要依靠指称相同，但区分指称是否1致还是很重要的。本文的目的就是在理论和实践的基础上讨论词汇衔接的各方面。然而在不同的文体中，词汇项目的使用频率也是不同的。那么在这篇论文中的讨论将有助于词汇衔接理论的发展。既然它都是以不同文体的语篇为论据，这将对语篇的进1步研究非常有用。
