海棠山位于阜新市蒙古族自治县境内，是东北三大名山之一医巫闾山的余脉。
海棠山不仅是国家级森林公园，还是藏传佛教黄教教派的艺术名山。人们称赞山中的奇松怪石可与黄山的相媲美。山中的摩崖造像是“中国东方藏传佛教中心”唯一幸存的珍贵文物群。现在就让我们来共同游览。
海棠山的山门整体造型是一个“佛“字。海棠山是蒙古语“亥台兀勒”的音译。“亥台”蒙古语译为“墙垛”，“兀勒”意为“山”。亥台山用蒙古语音译为“海棠山”。有人从山的名字上误认为山上必有海棠，实际上山上一朵海棠花都没有。
这是普安寺，俗称‘大喇嘛洞，是阜新地区仅次于瑞应寺的第二大寺庙，始建于1683年，至建国前夕，历经270余年，有6代5位活佛相传。由于清王朝倡导黄教，蒙古王公积极支持，所以普安寺不断扩建，历时百余年，终于形成了具有完整体系的藏传佛教寺庙建筑群。寺院建筑依山势布局，寺内雕铸塑画及众多佛像千姿百态，栩栩如生。烟火鼎盛时期，喇嘛多达1600多名。普安寺的主体建筑是大雄宝殿，大殿正中门上挂着道光皇帝御笔钦赐的“普安寺”匾额，两侧有壁画四大天王像。重新复建的大雄宝殿建筑面积达968平方米，建筑风貌非常宏伟壮观，整个大雄宝殿用黄金6公斤，宝石1200块，是目前东北地区修复建设的最大一座藏传佛教庙宇。殿内的这座高9.9米的大白伞盖佛母像是全国最大的室内雕塑佛造像之一。他们集中展示了普安寺民族宗教文化的动人风采。这座佛寺对祖国的宗教文化和民族文化的发展做出了一定的贡献。

大家看这个龙盘石。传说海棠山地区远古时期是一片汪洋大海。地壳几经变迁抬升，使海水退走。龙王的一个儿子留恋这里的美丽风光不愿随父迁走，便化小身形藏在一块巨岩缝里。玉皇大帝直到这件事以后，便将龙子点化为这块藏头缩尾的龙盘石。
我们现在看到的这尊巨大的摩崖造像是释迦牟尼像。它高4米，坐在巨大的莲花宝座上，其姿态安详，雕工精美，堪称一绝。
