  雅思写作真题大作文 1

Children today are too often bombarded with specially designed advertisements with rather juvenile tones and cartoony characters. In the essay, both positive and negative effects will be explored.

The dark side of the commercials aimed at the innocent young accounts for the unduly stress imposed on both children and parents. The most conspicuous defect is that juveniles tend to “keep up with Joneses” by asking for more pocket money to buy whatever is the latest advertised. Another drawback involves improper associations between a particular product and an image. For instance, over emphasis on a fancy electronic dictionary might distract children’s attention from enlarging vocabulary by simply repeating new words. Also, some candy advertisers will artfully create an illusion that only those who do not love won’t purchase the big bar of chocolate for their kids.

From the bright side, these advertisements are at least informative. For example, when a mother is fretting about her primary school child’s poor academic results, she can know a wide range of after-school or weekend classes through the promotions of various courses on the Internet, television and broadcast, after careful comparison of which, she could make a wiser choice. Unfortunately, this is not the whole story. Profit-oriented, most of the advertisements are bombastic and pompous, leading to a large sum of money, time and efforts totally in vain.

In conclusion, the vices overwhelm the virtues brought by these children-targeted advertisements. Even the adults can barely discern truth from deceptions and exaggerations, let alone the inexperienced who will also suffer from unnecessary peer pressure and wrong associations.

In the current digital era, there is a phenomenon that artists are still respected by the public. This essay may examine the reasons for it, and personally speaking, arts may not be less important than science and technology.

Initially, artists have made their painstaking efforts in their domains, which deserves respect from others. It is acknowledged that scientists may spend a lot of time and energy to develop their technological products. Similarly, it also takes musicians and painters a large amount of time and energy to compose a song or draw a satisfactory picture. Thus, having devoted to a specific career , artists should be respected as well.

Furthermore, artists may be gifted in expressing emotions while scientists may not be talented in it. It is common that a song could either bring joy and happiness to human beings or reflect people’s sadness under some conditions. Compared to arts, technology and science could provide individuals with convenience, but they may not illustrate emotions of human beings so vividly. Thus, the public still show their respect since some artistic product could echo their feelings.

From my own perspective, arts are as important as modern technology and science because of some unique functions. For most scientists, what they pursue may be a higher efficiency and accomplishing tasks in a shorter time. However, the existence of arts may allow people to enjoy their life in a slower pace. For example, spending a whole day on drawing a picture may be wasteful for some scientists, but painters could have a sense of achievement through such an activity. Thus, there is a need for emphasizing arts since arts could allow people to gain satisfaction as well.

In sum, individuals maintain their respect towards artists since artists devote themselves to careers they like and their product could demonstrate emotions of human beings better than technologies do. In my opinion, arts are also crucial for people could also obtain fulfillment through artistic activities.

Recently, frequent bouts of extreme weather and climate events are threatening millions of lives in various regions around the world to such an extent that humans should not look on with folded arms any longer. We need to live with the climate change and prevent it at the same time.

First and foremost, human society has to be confronted with climate changes anyway. They are inevitable for the two reasons. One is the inbuilt inertia of the ecosystem, which leads to the continuing warming effects during the next decades even if all the emissions stop today, and the other is the technology difficulty, which takes a long period to shift the global economy from the base of fossil fuels to renewable energies.

Therefore,a wide range of adjustments have to be made. There may be more severe floods and droughts, to resolve which problem, the techniques of artificial rainfall, sub drainage as well as real-time supervision and timely forecast should be strengthened and developed. What’s more, several industries should be revolutionized to better adapt to the changing climate. Agriculturally, meticulous selection of the water, drought, cold and heat resistant crops will be favored. As regards forestry, desertification can be slowed down by planting more trees while in terms of animal husbandry, grass seeds should be more diversified.

However, acclimatization does not necessarily mean capitulation in the battle against the climate change. Despite the impracticality to halt the alteration, the process can be postponed. One possible approach is to enforce strict laws, punishing environmentally destructive activities and deterring mercenary businesses and individuals from releasing astonishing amounts of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Another means is a concerted effort made by the global communities which are currently working individually for inconsistent targets.

In conclusion, the unstoppable climate change necessitates the simultaneous efforts of both and accommodation and prevention, which two are complementary and of equal significance.

When it comes to the issue about the choice of subjects at university, some people argue that it should be determined by governments, but others believe that students have the right to pick up any subject they like.

On one hand, it may be more efficient for governments to arrange subjects for students. The high unemployment rate, to some degree, may arise from a fact that students pour into a specific subject, such as finance or economics, which leads to a severe competition among those graduates. However, if governments are potent to decide what kind of subjects could be chosen for students, governments could distribute students to different majors. Then, the unemployment rate may be lowered since students could avoid too much pressure in a specialization.

On the other hand, students may be more motivated providing that they could choose subjects they prefer. When young people are forced to major in some fields they dislike, some of them may rebel against governments, which may even lead to social conflicts. On the contrary, being free to take subjects may stimulate students to make painstaking efforts. Then, students may be potent to achieve their goals with a higher possibility due to their enthusiasm and energy.

From my own perspective, these two opinions do not necessarily contradict each other, but could be adopted simultaneously. It is true that students do deserve the freedom to do whatever they intend to do, but sometimes they may be blind and regretful for their former choices at university later. Thus, a compromise may be that governments need to respect students choice, but they could provide students with a list on which some suggestions could be given. For example, governments could highlight some subjects related to too competitive careers currently, as well as some seemingly unpopular subjects that may be potential in the future, with which students may make an optimal option.

As a result of constant media attention, sports professionals in my country have become stars and celebrities, and those at the top are paid huge salaries. Just like movie stars, they live extravagantlifestyles with huge houses and cars.

Many people find their rewards unfair, especially when comparing these super salaries with those of top surgeons or research scientists, or even leading politicians who have the responsibilityof governing the country. However, sports salaries are not determined by considering the contribution to society a person makes, or the level of responsibility he or she holds. Instead, they reflect the public popularity of sport in general and the level of public support that successful stars can generate. So the notion of ‘fairness’ is not the issue.

Those who feel that sports stars’ salaries are justified might argue that the number of professionals with real talent are very few, and the money is a recognition of the skills and dedication a person needs to be successful. Competition is constant and a player is tested every time they perform. in their relatively short career. The pressure from the media is intense and there is little privacy out of the spotlight. So all of thesefactors may justify the huge earnings.

Personally, I think that the amount of money such sports stars make is more justified than the huge earnings of movie stars, but at the same time, it indicatesthat our society places more value on sport than on more essential professions and achievements.

The advancement of modern technology is making peoples life more comfortable and at the same time less human. To those who enjoy the benefits of technology, there is no better time to be alive than now, but to others life has been increasingly complex and stressful. The issue is whether such new technological machines as computers and the Internet would be our servants forever or eventually could become our masters.

All kinds of inventions made possible by technology are designed to be the slaves of human beings, if human beings are not to be slaved by machines. Once upon a time, we were plain people, but that was before we began having relationships with technological systems. By getting involved with computerized machines, we could not help changing the way we live and the way we work, for better or for worse It can be realized that life is more complex because much of modern technology is not born to meet primary human needs, and many unnecessary inventions are producing negative effects on a living style that used to be relatively simple. Thus, there is an overwhelming feeling of complexity in the sense that machines act like humans and humans act like machines. Now that intelligent machines such as robots are widely applied to take the place of human beings because they are capable of doing many useful jobs, although making many people joblesss. Those who cannot work with computers are disadvantaged and therefore helpless while the traditional skills and simple ways of life are fading away, never to return again.

With the development of cities, more and more new buildings are appearing in the city. Some people claim that the government should ensure all the new buildings should be built in traditional styles. For me, I do not agree with this suggestion.

Undoubtedly, the old buildings can reflect our traditional culture and should be protected and built. They are the houses where the ancient people lived. By appreciating these old buildings, we can have a better understanding of our ancient culture and history.

However, I do not agree that all the new buildings should be built in traditional styles. First of all, a city’s culture identity consists of the past culture and the modern culture. While past culture can be represented by the traditional buildings, modern culture should be reflected by modern buildings. If all the new buildings are built in traditional styles, the modern culture may be lost in the city. Secondly, the style of the new building should be decided by a lot of factors such as location, function, and so on. For instance, it is impossible for us to build a modern shopping mall into traditional style, because there are a lot of famous brands inside. Thirdly, modern buildings can accommodate more people than traditional buildings, which can meet the increasing population.

Therefore, I agree that we should build some old buildings, but we should not build all the buildings into traditional styles. We should consider a lot of aspects before we make the final decision.

With the progress of mankind’s culture, people communicate information each other in more and more various way, including books, radio, television and so forth. Lots of benefits withstanding, shortcoming also can not be neglected for these three ways.

Firstly, book is a familiar word that most people prefer. Lots of people have hobbies of reading books for the reason that book is a place where writers can exchange their own viewpoints or theories to readers and readers can also know about the personalities of writer. Nevertheless, books do not have the quality of time efficiency and just represent some certain persons’ view.

In terms of radio, apart from newspapers, radio may be the cheapest way for people to keep pace with the news or information. Just one radio is what we need to listen to broadcasting for communicating. And we can do many other things such as driving, riding while we are listening to the radio. However, radio can just satisfy our senses of hearing because of its lack of screen.

Finally, for the television, TV has the quality of time efficiency and satisfies our visual senses. Television is a place where there is always much information for us to realize or communicate with each other. We can communicate the views on TV with ours while we enjoy the TV programs or news. But TV is always too sophisticated for the kids, particularly some violent or blue scenes do really have bad impacts on children.

In conclusion, I think TV would be the most effective way of these three ways for people to communicating information each other on condition that Some related legislation could be so perfect in the future that violent or blue scenes could be restricted.

From a middle class family, I was born in Hsin Ying, Tainan on October 10th, 1965. My father is a civil official at Tainan City Government. My mother is a house wife good at cooking. Although I am the only child of my parents, I am by no mans a spoiled one. On the contrary, I have been expected to be a successful man with advanced education. I study hard at school. Besides texts knowledge, journalism is my favorite; whenever reading, my heart is filled with great joy and interesting。

“Being good is must; successful, however, is plus。” Father adopts the idea of his father. Especially in military service, I realized it more precisely. People said: Military service makes a boy to man, I agree that。

I realized the importance of English and began to study diligently when I was eighteen. I did not start in my early age, but I hope that I could pass the test of General English Proficiency Test. And this is my best wish at the moment。

We sure live differently from our parents did decades ago. The changes are wide and profound. At the same time, we are facing challenges and problems unknown in the past. Could we find solutions to problems created by scientific development? The answer seems to be no.

Some of the most obvious problems caused by technological advances lie in the IT industry. At a time when we did not have computers and electronic bank services, people took money with them and paid by cash. If they were stolen, only the amount they had with them was lost. But now credit cards are more commonly used in shopping malls and other places, crimes again us have become more serious and caused greater losses to people. A thief may tape the code of your credit card and make a copy of it. Then he could safely withdraw all your money from an ATM machine. Crimes such as this are very sticky to solve because there is no witness and the surveillance cameras give little help to the police.

Another example is the issue of information control with the media industry including TV networks and Internet that give easy access to information without discrimination to people’s age. This has created a huge problem for parents and schools because teenage people are particularly vulnerable to adult materials and information violent in nature. In the past, when most information came in the form of print, it was relatively easy to control what children read. When a parent put away a book unsuitable for children, they were cut off from the source of information. With computer parents could use software to filter bad web sites but could not prevent new ones from appearing every day.

People are working very hard to solve such problems that come along with advances in science and technology, but the efforts are not sufficient and not very successful. Even with the little progress we have achieved, we find ourselves defeated by new problems with greater complexity and in wider scope.

In conclusion, developments in many fields of our life have brought us both benefits and problems. Developments in the banking industry give us greater convenience but making us targets of computer-based theft. Changes in media industry expose young people to inappropriate information difficult for parent’s control. However up until now, we have not successfully found permanent solutions yet.

Tuning to the BBC or CNN, one is besieged by (news about) formidable disasters, diseases, conflicts, and controversies. But none is more challenging than the shortage of fresh water, a source which has long been mistakenly assumed to be inexhaustible. Unfortunately, few people realize the impending (急迫的)potential catastrophe (灾难)arising from the insufficient fresh water. Governments must be blamed if they have not informed people the importance of fresh water.

Fresh water has been closed associated with life, not only the life of human beings, but also the life of all kinds of plants and animals. Lacking fresh water, the earth will become ill. Nevertheless, human beings are confronted with the crisis of insufficient fresh water.

The shortage of fresh water can be attributed to the lower efficiency in water utilization. The irrigation in many countries wastes overwhelmingly. Some developing countries still use the primitive irrigation system, which is believed to waste at least 70% fresh water.

Life water utilization also shows strikingly lower efficiency. Many citizens have no concept of saving water. In most cities in China, fresh water is used to flush lavatories. Moreover, most citizens use wash-machine, which consumes a larger volume of fresh water.

Besides, fresh water has been polluted by agriculture and industry activities. Aquatic(水)ecosystem has largely been ruined by unrestricted drainage (排水)of sewages (污水). In metropolis (big cities大都市), the hospitals and laboratories are also the serious sources of water pollution.

Governments are expected to launch campaigns against water pollution. Individuals, households, and the states all should use their unique ways to save the limited resources.

The charts compare the sources of electricity in Australia and France in the years 1980 and 2000. During these years electricity production almost doubled, rising from 100 units to 170 in Australia, and from 90 to 180 units in France.

In 1980 Australia used coal as the main electricity source (50 units) and the remainder was produced from natural gas, hydro power (each producing 20 units) and oil (which produced only 10 units). By 2000, coal had become the fuel for more than 75% of electricity produced and only hydro power continued to be another significant source supplying approximately 20%.

In contrast, France used coal as a source for only 25 units of electricity in 1980, which was matched by natural gas. The remaining 40 units were produced largely from oil and nuclear power, with hydro power contributing only 5 units. But by 2000 nuclear power, which was not used at all in Australia, had developed into the main source, producing almost 75% of electricity, at 126 units, while coal and oil together produced only 50 units. Other sources were no longer significant.

Overall, it is clear that by 2000 these two countries relied on different principal fuel sources: Australia relied on coal and France on nuclear power.

The argument correctly states the importance of the governments and large businesses but underestimates the significance of individual human beings in the campaign against environmental problems.

Governments and large businessesplay positive rolesinmaking the earth healthierby reducing the amount of pollutants which humans put into the ocean, sea, river, lake, and atmosphere. The main functions of governments in this campaign are in the field of policy making and legislation. To make policy is to scientifically, effectively, and efficiently organize people, resources, and funds to improve the environments. In this glorious activity launched by man against nature businesses provide financial support in the form of donation and the like. P&G, HP, and IBM all contribute much annually in this concern.

While emphasizing the crucial functions of the governments and businesses, we should not be distracted from the vital roles every individual human being plays in this great and glorious global project. Children, adults, and the elders all are indispensable in cracking the hard nut of pollution and consumption of limited resources. In our dailyroutine, each human being is expected to save the electricity, water, and fossil fuels. For instance, a child is expected to switch off the light when leaving the classroom. In agricultural production, each farmer is supposed to use less pesticide and sufficiently protect the water and soil from erosion. In industrial activities, each employee should conduct his or her activity with environmental ethic concerning. If all people work together, struggle together, and pray together, we will win one day in the future. Yes, lets share the only dream in the diversified world.

In conclusion, if governments, businesses, and individuals all contribute to the environmental programs and projects, then we human beings will enjoy a healthier and happier life in this globe.

There is no doubt that traffic and pollution from vehicles have become huge problems, both in cities and on motorways everywhere. Solving these problems is likely to need more than a simple rise in the price of petrol.

While it is undeniable that private car use is one of the main causes of the increase in traffic and pollution, higher fuel costs are unlikely to limit the number of drivers for long. As this policy would also affect the cost of public transport, it would be very unpopular with everyone who needs to travel on the roads. But there are various other measures that could be implemented that would have a huge effect on these problems.

I think to tackle the problem of pollution, cleaner fuels need to be developed, The technology is already available to produce electric cars that would be both quieter and cleaner to use. Persuading manufacturers and travellers to adopt this new technology would be a more effective strategy for improving air quality, especially in cities.

However, traffic congestion will not be solved by changing the type of private vehicle people can use. To do this, we need to improve the choice of public transport services available to travellers. For example, if sufficient sky trains and underground train systems were built and effectively maintained in our major cities, then traffic on the roads would be dramatically reduced. Long-distance train and coach services should be made attractive and affordable alternatives to driving your own car for long journeys.

In conclusion, I think that long-term traffic and pollution reductions would depend on educating the public to use public transport more, and on governments using public money to construct and run efficient systems.

As a matter of fact, such practice can bring more benefits in various aspects, especially in economic growth. For one thing, as the newly-tapped energy can directly alleviate the energy shortage, which will to some extent guarantee a country’s industrialisation a promising prospect, both economic and technology development will be spurred, offering better prerequisites to resolving environment crisis by exploring new alternatives. In contrast, the lack of feasible approaches to energy scarcity will undoubtedly bring both economic growth and technology advancement to a standstill.// For another, the locals in remote areas can also be benefitted, as such a policy must provide them with more job opportunities, by which their life quality will be bettered.

  雅思写作真题大作文 15

Happiness is very difficult to define, because it means so many different things to different people. While some people link happiness to wealth and material success, others think it lies in emotions and loving personal relationships. Yet others think that spiritual paths, rather than either the material world or relationships with people, are the only way to true happiness.

Because people interpret happiness for themselves in so many different ways, it is difficult to give any definition that is true for everyone. however, if there are different kinds of happiness for different individuals then the first step in achieving it would be to have a degree of self-knowledge. A person needs to know who he or she is before being able to know what it is that makes him or her happy.

Of course, factors such as loving relationships, good health, the skills to earn a living and a peaceful environment all contribute to our happiness too. But this does not mean that people without these conditions cannot be happy.

Overall, I think an ability to keep clear perspectives in life is a more essential factor in achieving happiness. By that I mean an ability to have a clear sense of what is important in our lives (the welfare of our families, the quality of our relationships, making other people happy, etc.) and what is not ( a problem at work, getting annoyed about trivial things, etc.).

Life self-awareness, this is also very difficult to achieve, but I think these two factors that may be most important for achieving happiness.
