  2016年10月22日的雅思作文真题:

In some countries, the criminal trials are shown on the TV and the general public can watch them. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?在一些国家,刑事审判在电视上播放让公众能够看到他们。你认为利大于弊吗?

  参考范文:

A few criminal trials can be watched by the audience on the television in some nations, which may bring negative effects according to certain people. For example, the bloody pictures and immoral ways of behavior may leave the audiences with uncomfortable and disgusting impressions. But as far as I am concerned, the advantages of showing these criminal trials to the general public are more because of the two reasons below.

Firstly, showing the criminal trials on TV can teach people about laws and how to protect themselves from criminals. For example, younger generations, especially kinds and teenagers, sometimes can not tell right from wrong since they are so young. By watching these kind of criminal trials, they can get involved in the laws through real cases and learn from misfortunes of others rather than themselves, thus knowing the dos and don’ts, following the laws and regulations of the society when they grow up in the future.

Secondly, showing the criminal trials can get the general public involved in the trial process and speculate the trial directly, letting them know what happened outside. For example, the audience from each places in the nation can never see one trial at the same time without the help of TV, government can have better communication with the general public from everywhere by showing the criminals trials on TV, thus the general public can have a speculation and know if it is fair or not.

To conclude, showing the criminals on TV will definitely bring more benefits for us than the negative impacts, such as teaching people about laws and regulations and get the public involved in the trial processes directly, which will do good for the general public as well as the governments.

It is a common phenomenon that we are surrounded by crime reports transmitted by a variety of media audits like television. Some believe that it is likely to impose negative impact on our society. Personally, whether such publicity of violent scenes is positive or negative is still under question.

It is of course the true case that violent information exerts a detrimental influence on people subconsciously, particularly on children lacking the ability of judgment. In this way, children are of great likelihood to mimic what they have seen in violent television programs. It is also fair to say that this is evident for some adults. By that I mean violent images lead people to be more anxious about their safety, since they may automatically presume whatever disastrous sufferings they saw on screen or newspaper may fall on them. Therefore, being to meticulous about their security, many perspectives of their lives such as working efficiency and life qualities are the collateral victims.

However, in spite of this, there is no adequate reason for the eradication of criminality on screen. Those who are negatively affected are just a result of the disability to psychologically control themselves properly, which cannot be attributed to media, and it is incumbent upon it to inform the massed of what have happened around them, no matter good or bad. In addition, objectively, it is indisputably persuasive that the description of crimes actually serves as a deterrent to these potential criminals, who harbor the conspiracy to break the law.

In conclusion, the appearance of anti-social behaviors on television demonstrates both its upsides and downsides in society. However, age limitation should be carried out in case the very young who lack judgment go astray.

Traditionally, the general public have little knowledge about the process of criminal trials, but now many of these cases are broadcasted on TV.I think this policy can make the judicial work fairer and more transparent, but it also causes some problems.

Undoubtedly,TV broadcast of the trial is an effective way to guarantee the public's right to be informed of the court case. Taking advantage of the influence o mass media, such programs can draw people's attention to some events. For instance, some cases of corrupted government officials are broadcasted on TV and after watching them, the general public show more confidence in the law and the court. Also, the process and the result of the trail can have a deterrent effect on those who intend to commit crimes making them consider the consequences of criminal behavior.

However,we have to admit that this practice has its drawbacks. Broadcasting the trial may cause great pressure on those judicial officials,Whose work could be affected by the public opinion. For the general public, watching the trial on TV would undoubtedly leave them a deeper impression of the criminal act. When exposed to excessive details of the crimes, particularly those violent ones, some people may feel uncomfortable and lack a sense of security. Another concern is that TV broadcast may lead to the invasion of the privacy of victims as well as those who are prosecuted.

Overall, broadcasting criminal trials on TV can make the general public informed of the these cases, which is considered as a symbol of progress in judicial work. However, how to tackle the consequent problems is still a challenge.

  参考范文:

When it comes to a phenomenon that citizens could watch convictions on television, some people may argue that there is no need to promote televising trials, but I approve of the idea that there exist more advantages acquired from showing cases publicly.

Admittedly, broadcasting of trials may create a lot of difficulties to the sentencing procedure. When trials are shown publicly on TV, it is natural for lawyers to focus on their appearance since they may attract potential clients if they perform well, which may separate their time and energy on trials. Also, witnesses may be afraid of their security if they really give a vital verdict. Thus, televising trials may be influenced if the public could watch trials on TV; however, it is still beneficial to the broadcasting of trials.

To begin with, televising trials could pose a deterring effect on potential offenders. If cases are judged publicly on TV, the direct consequence is that some lawbreakers may be remembered. When those perpetrators are released in the future, they may not integrate into the society anymore since the public are afraid of them. Thus, potential culprits may give up their criminal plans after they think about the result of being judged on TV.

Furthermore, the public may have a stronger sense of laws with filming trials. In the past, only a limited number of trials are shown on TV and a lot of citizens do not know details of the sentencing procedure. However, being able to watch trials on TV currently, the public could be familiar with the juridical system, such as how lawyers function in a case. Then, if they are involved in some cases in the future, at least, they could ask for assistance in a correct way.

In sum, considering the deterrent effect on possible offenders and a stronger sense of laws for the public, merits of filming trials do outnumber demerits caused by it.

  参考范文:

Whether criminal trials should be shown on TV or not has always been a controversial issue. After discussing the advantages of this practice and its disadvantages, I come to believe televising criminal trials is a good thing as long as its negative effects are brought well under control.

Showing criminal trials on TV can serve multiple purposes at the same time such as educational, deterrent and regulatory. When watching how criminals are tried and sentenced, TV viewers will learn a great deal about the law and the legal system. In fact, it was from a televised trial that I finally understood it is a violation of law if you do not stop your car when you see a stop sign. Meanwhile, TV trials can help bring down the crime rate. People are fearful of their faces shown on TV after they commit crimes because it is generally considered to be a disgrace to the family. Finally, aware that they are watched by the general public, the lawyers and judges will have to make sure that the law is followed strictly and the justice is done to the highest standards.

Admittedly, TV trials, particularly the live shows, may bring about negative effects as well. Often the TV trials will present a lot of details of the criminal offenses such as killing, embezzling, cheating, so much so that they become a promotion of these crimes. As a matter of fact, many juvenile offenders admit they have been under great influences of TV criminal shows. More importantly, in TV criminal trials, lawyers and judges may often pay more attention to their own personal images to the TV viewers, thus forgetting the real purpose of the trial, which is to find if a person is guilty or innocent and in this way, the justice may be sacrificed.

However, I personally do like the idea of putting criminal trials on TV. Besides telling us right from wrong in a more vivid way and preempting us from committing crimes, TV trials will let us know how the punishment is meted out and how justice is done. This, I believe, is what our basic civil right is all about.
