英国留学推荐信写法
推荐信的含义
在申请研究生课程时，绝大部分学校都要求申请人提交2-3份推荐信，通常称为Recommendation Letter或Reference(多见于英国)。录取委员会除了注重申请人呈现出的主观上的自己，还想借着推荐者的文字描述了解申请人客观的背景状况。因此，推荐信可以提供一种非量化、公式化的评估素材。
推荐信的内容
推荐信的核心内容是评估申请者的特质，以及将来在某个特定专业领域发展的潜力。有些学校会提供推荐信表格让推荐人逐一填写并回答问题。如：
How long have you known the applicant and in what capacity
What are the applicant’s talents or strengths and weakness
How would you assess the candidate’s potential for success in the graduate program he or she has selected
In your opinion, how could the applicant benefit from attending this graduate program
Please provide any additional comment about the applicant's personality, ability, motivation or leadership potential that are relevant to the admissions decision.

推荐人的选择
将推荐信核心考察点细分下去，大致可将其总结为三类：一是教育背景、学习能力;二是综合素质、活动表现;三是工作经历、发展前景。
那么选择什么样的人写推荐信最合适呢?商学院青睐的是与申请者熟悉的、有过交集或密切联系的、真正欣赏申请者、并且愿意客观地去推荐的人。对一般的本科在读生而言，比较有效的推荐人通常分别来自于专业课老师、班主任(系主任)、以及实习单位领导。
在具体选择推荐人时应该注意：
首先，避免亲属或家庭成员。学校一般都明确规定不能由这类人来写推荐信。原因是他们往往很难客观反映事实。在家族企业里工作的申请者，如果一定要请亲属推荐，在写推荐信的时候一定不要表明你们的血缘关系。
其次，推荐人的职位并不是越高越有利。有些人会困惑于究竟是找班主任还是校长、部门主管抑或公司总经理。应该说，一个身处高位但是和申请人并不熟悉的人写出的一封用在谁身上都合适的推荐信是达不到任何效果的。只有了解申请者及其成长过程、有过共事经历的人才能针对申请者的优缺点进行深入分析，并辅以具体的事例，提供有深度的推荐。
最后，推荐人的选择应相辅相成，避免重复。学校一般都要求多封推荐信，那么就意味着需要选择不同的推荐人，把侧重点放在不同的地方，每个人有一个集中突出的主题，综合在一起，才能勾勒出申请者全面完整的形象。
推荐信的撰写
推荐信原本是一种很具隐私性的文件，应该由推荐人亲自撰写、密封并签字。国外录取委员会通常也理所当然地认为申请者是看不到推荐信内容的。
所以在表格里经常看到这么一句话：I waive my right of access to this recommendation and authorize the author of this recommendation to provide an evaluation of me to *** University. 这意味着申请者放弃(现在或将来)看到这封推荐信的'权利。
然而，由于客观情况(推荐人英语水平、办事风格等)的影响，现在的留学申请当中，有很大一部分推荐信其实是出自于申请者自己之手，推荐人通常只是通览全篇之后负责签字落款。那么，申请者要如何写出“看起来真实”的推荐信呢?
首先，要遵守逻辑关系。不要提及正常情况下推荐人不可能知道的事情。例如，专业课老师往往不熟悉你的课外活动表现，班主任通常不会知道你是否熬夜写论文泡图书馆，一个老师不适合评论申请者在其它课堂上的表现。若情况特殊，一定要交代清楚。
其次，要以“例”服人。如果一封推荐信只是泛泛而谈流于形式，堆砌了溢美之词却没有具体例子来支撑这些观点，这样的推荐信不仅不能使录取委员会增加对申请者的了解，反而会让他们怀疑推荐人是否有所保留。
第三，可以适当提及自己的“缺点”。按理说推荐信应该主要阐述优点，但如果只是一味吹捧，不免有粉饰之嫌。如果能恰当地加入一些“缺点”，不仅能令推荐信显得更真实，还能突出被推荐人的个人特质。例如，“较难平衡学习和生活”可以间接体现出“废寝忘食的态度”，“有时吹毛求疵”其实是在反映“做事认真细致”。
最后，要全面了解和区分推荐人。包括推荐人的年龄、性格、职务、主要学术研究方向等。由此来设定不同推荐信的语言风格、字体排版，甚至纸张、信封等细节。
