the seed of the dream emerged from my journey to hong kong at the age of 8.hong kong, with its unique historical background, is home to residents from all over the world. it is hong kong’s diversification of global culture and good social order that attract me most. i have made up my mind to make my way to the dream destination, hku, which is generally acknowledged as the best university in asia where advanced educational philosophies, such as” the whole person education” are the main focus. this not only adapts to my personal character but broaden my horizon with an english-teaching atmosphere as well.
during my trip to the uk, the strong curiosity drives me to walk into every corner of the college in oxford, however, what i get surprised most is the perfect preservation of the old architecture despite the long history. compared to the situation in uk, china still has a long way to go, reflected from its poor architecture preserving system and the lack of cultural consciousness. therefore, i deeply realize the importance of protecting the precious heritage and decide to devote myself into the bachelor of arts in conservation studies.
i grow up with a great sense of social responsibility. i used to be a volunteer served in the old people’s home. every minute when i talk with those poor people do i find how much care and help they need from the society.thus, with the courage and the persistence ,i consider it my responsibility to build up a better life for弱势群体。the bachelor of social work in hku provides me with a perfect platform to achieve my dream.

firstly, thank you for taking your busy time to read my letter of self recommendation.
my name is xx, a student in western of henan province.
when i was a little girl, my parents often told me that change my destiny with the knowledge, and go out of the mountains with my knowledge. so i study hard, from the primary school to high school, the excellent grades are my parents’ pride. in the third grade of junior high school, i got into the best high school in my city with 20 scores more than the score line.
i was deeply interested in english from junior high school. i took part in li yang crazy english training camp by accident, and achieved the title of “outstanding camper”. it increased my passion of learning english. in the three years of high school, i had a great progress with the help of the creative teaching method of my english teacher. whatever enjoy the american tv series or listen to amazing english songs, these activities practiced my oral english greatly. furthermore, my teacher let us translate the dialogues in the movies into lingbao dialect. it also added my interests in learning english. in the second grade of high school, i took part in the national english innovation competition. although i didn’t get the prize, i learnt a lot from the process. i think english is not only a subject, but also a culture. it infiltrates in all aspects of our life. learning english well is not only for personal development, but also for showing more graceful posture of china in the world. zhengzhou university is the only national “211 project” key university in henan. it is also a dream heaven of numerous students. to be a member of it and studying in it is my dream. the free academic atmosphere and the deep culture attracted me strongly. i hope the teachers can give me this
precious opportunity of studying here, and realize the dream of a student in rural who has thirsty for knowledge.
in the three years of high school, i have been working in class commission and charge labor and art. in the process of servicing the classmates and our class, i find the value of myself and also enhance self-confidence. in the process of contacting with others i developed a warm, cheerful and positive personality. driven by the burning passion for literature and performing, i organized and acted in our school variety show. i created a sketch, named “good recruitment of china”. i got much help of my teacher and classmates in the process of creation and performance. i felt the strength of team work. at last, our sketch got a good response. and then i participated in the creation of class song. the passionate melody becomes the exhaustible power of making progress for all students in our class . i became a volunteer of the welfare centre in our city. in my free time, i often visit the disabled children with classmates. because of their innocent smile and thirst eyes for knowledge, i had an idea to be a volunteer teacher. so i plan to teach in village with my free time in university and make a contribution for the construction of our country with my own meager strength!
for the students in rural areas, entering into the university means go out of the mountains and change the destiny. it also means i have the power to make a contribution for the construction of my hometown.
