Objective is the usual first section of the resume. This is ideal for the candidates that were just starting up and to those candidates that do not have prominent work experience. Excluding dates of previous schooling, or job held even early in your career is not good. These automatically denote that the applicant is trying to cover up something. There is a possibility for the applicant to be ruled out just for leaving the date off.
However, when it comes on the details of the employment backgrounds of candidates who had been engaged in so many jobs and had a quite long list of attainments and achievements, it is a must to limit these stuffs to only those that are current and significant to the job being applied. Refrain from enlisting those that are very old because including irrelevant and out dated accomplishment is boring.
Civic leadership would be good to include especially when it is related to the job target of the applicant but caution must be observed when mentioning political affiliation or better yet, avoid listing any information that denote political matter because the hiring company or employer might have different view to the political inclinations of the applicant.
Writing too many personal details on the resume is also a big blunder. It is not necessary to include the height, weight, religion, number of children, spouse's name and occupation, or the color of your eyes. Personal interests like your hobby or recreations are likewise not essential. Being good in chess or having won several bowling tournaments will not help you land to your dream job. Reserve these information when making a Curriculum Vitae or when being asked during the interview.
There are so many ways to make sure that your resume will look professional. Have several colleagues or friends review the content of your resume. Remember that your resume is your marketing piece and you create it to advertise yourself to prospective employers. So make sure your resume perfectly reflects you.
