How to Get a Job in Your Sixties Plus
Many will tell you that you are past it at sixty. Usually advice
you will get from younger people. Pass this off as just being
competitive. After all you are competition to that thirty year
old.
Steps
- Make yourself desirable to the employer.
- Be friendly.
- Use your advantages, particularly soft skills, life experience
and humility gained over the years.
- Learn new skills and augment the old ones.
- Apply for jobs with unfamiliar titles, but essentally what you
have been doing for years. Remember that many simple jobs now have
fancy titles.
- Don't assume older people are less flexible. The opposite is
probably the case. Look at President Clinton. In his 60s and
continually reinventing himself.
- Don't sell yourself short. Older people generally can easily
compete at every level with their younger rivals. So still go for
that big money you know you are worth.
Tips
- Form associations with other over sixties. Remember that in the
US the over 55s have 70 percent of the wealth. So you do have a
little power.
- Start up companies for over sixties as workers. There is a big
and growing market selling to over 60s too.
Warnings
- Don't be put off by media, newspapers, TV, etc. negativity.
Most of this comment comes from younger folk anyway.
