Mostly sales engineers are recruited by hardware, software or professional services companies. The role of sales engineer is to bridge the gap between engineering and sales acumen expertise.

Most of the company recruits sales representatives but they did not develop specializations. The sales rep is able to handle all the aspects of sale for which he/she needed assistance was what brought about strategic selling and relationship selling. But the sales rep only expected to give details about the solution at a high level, leaving the more technical aspects that are explained by the sales engineer.
