How to Land a Summer Job
You may want a summer job for the obvious benefits it can offer.
It offers a place to be during the long day where you may normally
sit at home all day. This guide can be considered supplemental to
whatever techniques you were using before to try and get a job.
Steps
- Contact people (adults) who you have some kind of beneficial
relationship with and ask if they may know someone who has a job
opening.
- Call local stores and ask them whether or not you can work
there part-time, or even on a trial basis.
- Prepare some sort of resume or list of merits you may give to
the employer to show that you are professional and organized.
- If you get called in for an interview, try not to be nervous,
and most of all be courteous and respectful.
- Most important, do not lie or give false information (i.e.,
certificates, classes, experience). However, this may pop up as you
may be nervous. If this happens, admit that you lied because you
were nervous and calm yourself immediately.
Tips
- If at first you don't succeed, don't become discouraged because
it may take a while.
- You may want to try doing community service so that you can
build up references for a real job.
- Do not ask for dates when you get paid, the employer will tell
you that and asking him/her may fluster him/her.
- Try to prepare answers to some questions that you think that
the employer may ask. This will give you more confidence and will
prevent you from panicking and/or becoming nervous.
- Apply to more than one position at a time. For example if in
your town center there is more than job going in local shops/hotels
etc. apply to all of them. Don't be tied down to one job vacancy.
If you only apply to one, they may not contact you back. But if you
applied to them same one and two others, the other two may contact
you back and you have not wasted any time.
