How to Create a Writing Portfolio
Before interviewing for a job, make sure you are prepared. If
you are going into the writing profession you will want to create a
portfolio containing numerous writing samples and any other
relative work. For a small cost you can create a portfolio to
impress any employer.
Steps
- Update your resum茅 and make any necessary corrections to your
writing samples.
- Make copies of all the documents you will be using, including
the copies in your portfolio.
- Purchase a binder to encase all of your documents.
- Make sure to include a cover page featuring your name and a
simple design 鈥?put your personality into it but keep it looking
professional.
- Divide your work into different categories if possible. For
example you can categorize it by professional work, academic work,
etc.
- When you have everything organized put your portfolio together!
Cover the title page first, then start off with your resum茅
followed by all of your writing samples.
- Don鈥檛 be afraid to make more than one portfolio. That way you
can give it to each employer to keep and remember you by after the
interview.
Tips
- Double check for any spelling errors or typing errors.
- Any items that have a photo should be printed in colour, if
possible.
- Include a business card with your portfolio 鈥?you鈥檒l really
impress them and then they have a way to contact you other than
telephone or email.
- Make enough copies so that you can leave the portfolio with
your potential employer.
Things You'll Need
- Paper.
- Printer.
- Binder/portfolio (can be purchased cheaply!).
- Copies of your work to fill your portfolio!
