How to Safely Shred Important Papers

If you need to shred important things such as letters, credit cards, medical info, etc., then you can easily do so following the steps here.

Steps

1. Put the paper(s) through a shredder or cut them up with a pair of scissors.
2. Repeat step 1, placing the remains at a different angle so that the remains become slightly smaller.
3. Dispose of contents in a disposable bag and tightly tie it.
4. For extra protection fill the bag with water to further disfigure the papers.
5. Throw the bag in a trash receptacle or a recycle box.

Tips

• Repeat step 2 as many times as you like.
• Shredders are much better. If you don't have a shredder and don't want to go out and buy a big expensive mechanical shredder, you should at least get a hand shredder.
• Putting the paper in separate bags helps as well.

Warnings

• Don't get your fingers caught in the shredder.
• Don't cut yourself!
