The process of organizing files can be very difficult. Having a
more manageable file system is beneficial to both you and those
around you. It is helpful when you need access to the information
at hand.
Steps
- Determine where the file system is going. For example, are the
files on disk, a hard drive stored on your computer system, or
papers stuffed in manila folders?
- Gather together all of the information that is to be placed in
the file system.
- Sort the information by class. Categorize it, or just put it in
a-b-c order. If you have a box full of removable storage (floppy,
CD, DVD), you can sort them by topic if you have them labeled.
- Once you have everything sorted out and in its own little pile,
you can then place it in some sort of order. It can be by date or
a-b-c order.
- At this point, the file system location has been made and you
can now place your files in an organized manner.
Tips
- Always back-up files on hard drives and on removable
storage.
- You can download file organizing software if you like.
Warnings
- Always remember how your system is set up, so that when a file
is removed it can be replaced in the right order.
